Thank you.

BASEBALL SEASON January 22, 2008

Baseball season is not far away and the St. John High School baseball team has been practicing very hard. Practice for the Eagles began January 3. After three weeks of hard work we have seen much improvement. We are beginning to gel with one another and become a big family on the field. Coach Whittington, Harrell, and Landry have been working us extremely hard 3-4 hours a day, getting us better and where we need to be. The work ethic is unbelievable and is progresses each day.

The Eagles fundraising has begun with advertisement signs and the spaghetti dinner. The advertisement signs are new to the fundraising program at St. John. The signs cost $100 and will be up for this baseball season. The spaghetti dinner is a tradition in Eagle baseball fundraising. The tickets for the spaghetti dinner cost $5 per plate. Please help out the Eagles and get a spaghetti dinner.

This year Coach Whittington has set up a website for the Eagle baseball team. The website is www.stjohneaglebaseball.com. It is a great informational site and has lots of great things to offer. On the website you can find practice and game schedules, scores, stats, player information, awards, staff, and camps. The website allows the Eagles to be known worldwide. It is great for the players to get noticed by college and pro scouts. Many players don’t get the opportunity to play college ball because they aren’t known about. With the website it gives those players that aren’t known about an opportunity be heard of. The website is also a great advertisement for the team and the school. We are looking forward to this season and thanks for all of your support.

The BCS National Championship game took place on January 7, 2008 in New Orleans at the Superdome. The game was between the LSU TIGERS and Ohio State Buckeyes. There was much controversy leading up to the game due to the fact that LSU was playing for the national championship with two losses. Many peope thought that they might not be the right team playing for the national title, but any other team would have had two losses or more if they would’ve played for the title as well. The only two teams that had less than two losses was Ohio State and Hawaii. Hawaii was undefeated and didn’t play for the BCS National Championship. Some say that they should have gotten an opportunity to play for the title because they had no losses, but they got beat very badly against a Georgia team in another BCS bowl game, which showed that they didn’t deserve a shot at the title.

CENTRAL CATHOLIC GAME September 21, 2007

The St. John Eagles will play Central Catholic this week. The Eagles have a 2-1 record with wins over Brusly and U-High. The Eagles only lost came from H. L. Bourgeois, a 5A School. All in all, the Eagles season is off to a wonderful start. The Eagles are marching right back in the Top 10 of the 2A class.     Also, the Eagles will honor the seniors of the team this Friday at the game. There are fifteen Seniors on the Eagles Football Team. There will be a lot of proud parents at the game Friday night when the Eagles take on an unbeaten Central Catholic team. The St. John senior cheerleaders and dance team members will be honored also. It will be a night to remember for all in attendance.

Even though it will be Senior Night, let us not forget, that there is still a game to be played. The Central Catholic team will not be an easy opponent, because they have not lost a game so far. I asked Quarterback Galen Johnson how he feels about the game on Friday night against Central Catholic and he stated, ” I feel good because all of our good players are back on offense this week.” He also said, “Since we are back on offense, it is our time to shine, have a good time and score some points.”

The Eagles are trying for a 3 -1 record early into the season. The Eagles still have a long way to go though . The teams left on the schedule are no push over. I think the Eagles play the hardest schedule in the state this year, but, I think they have the talent to win a lot of games and represent St. John of Plaquemine really well.

So good luck to you Eagles and I hope you come back with a victory against Central Catholic. Go Eagles!!!
