Last Thursday night, the St. John Eagles faced the Kentwood Kangaroos in week six of the regular season. If you would have asked many St. John fans if they thought the Eagles would even have a chance against the Kangaroos, after week one, they would probably tell you that you were crazy for proposing that question. As the weeks went on, the Eagles showed more and more improvement. When the Eagles made the trip down to Riverside in week five and handled the Rebels without a problem, I knew that the following week six game against the Kangaroos would be an excellent game.

There were some changes in preparation for the game against Kentwood. The Eagles decided to do pre-game warm ups at St. John practice field, so they would not give away any game plan previews to the Kentwood coaching staff and team. When I passed by the practice field and saw what the Eagles were doing, I knew it wasn’t going to be an ordinary football game. Minutes after seeing the Eagles doing pre-game two miles down the road at St. John, the Eagle busses came strolling into the stadium, but there was one problem. The Eagle busses were empty. Seconds later I saw the football team walking from in front of Plaquemine High School and into the stadium. It was a different look in their eyes, one I hadn’t seen before. After viewing all of these new preparations for a very strong and talented Kentwood team, there was no doubt in my mind that the St. John Eagles were going to walk off of the football field with a victory.

The Eagle offense and defense did a great job against the Kangaroos. The offense came out and scored on only a two play drive. At half the score was 14-7 in favor of the Eagles. I didn’t think that 14 points would beat the Kangaroos. The Eagles scored two more times after the half and only allowed one more touchdown to the Kangaroos of Kentwood, giving them a 26-13 victory. It was a huge win for the Eagles and is only the beginning of many great wins ahead for the Eagle football team.
