It’s game day. Make-up is applied and hair is brushed neatly in place. After long practices, the girls are ready. They grab their poms and line up on the field. It’s game time!
Every week it is the duty of the cheerleaders and dancers to be there to support their football team. It is the responsibility of the cheerleaders to pump up the crowd and fill the fans with spirit, while it is the Eaglette dance team’s responsibility to entertain the crowd during halftime. These things may not seem important, but to the girls on these teams it is what they do best. Many parents and friends come out to support our ladies while they cheer on our team. The dance team and cheerleaders are an essential part of the game. They make sure their jobs are fulfilled and people are enthusiastic and ready to roll.
After a rough start, the Eaglettes are back on their toes. Captain Mandy Pitre says, “I am proud of the dance team. After losing two members and going through a few rough patches, I feel like we are back and stronger than ever. I am very confident that we will make you proud.” Mrs. Pam Mechana has led the team for the past three years, and we hope that she will return for another. The dance team has nine members from all different classes. They dance at all home games, away games, and even pep rallies. Not only do the dancers dance at halftime, but they also give a very entertaining stand routine. The dance team practices everyday until the job is finished. They are a hard-working group of girls who are very dedicated to staying committed and pleasing the crowd.
Like the dancers, the cheerleaders are well-respected and hardworking. The cheerleading squad is a member of 14 girls who worked hard to make the cut. The cheerleaders attend all home and away games. Not only do they perform at pep ralleys, but they also run the show. They make sure everything is organized and ready to go to pump up the students and football players. Mrs. Rachael Williams leads the cheerleaders, and makes sure they are prepared and ready for all of the games. The cheerleaders are fun to watch and make sure the crowd stays on
their feet.

Mario Strikers Charged
Mario Strikers Charged is the latest Mario Sports game right now. What sport is this game played at? Why, it’s soccer. In a general rule of soccer, you and your team must work together to shoot a ball in a net past the goalie. In this game, there are new things that have added to make things more exciting.
For starters, there are as many as 12 Captains and eight Sidekicks to choose from. Here, in Mario Strikers Charged, there are four players on each side. There is one captain and three sidekicks on each side. These are the captains: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Bowser, Wario, Waluigi, Bowser Jr., Diddy Kong, and Petey Piranha. These are the sidekicks: Hammer Bro., Toad, Birdo, Koopa Troopa, Dry Bones, Boo, Monty Mole, and Shy Guy. Each character has unique abilities and powers to use against their opponent.
There are quite a few things to know about Mario Strikers Charged that makes this game totally unique. Items- You can use items to help you win those games. There are two ways to get items: A. You can do a charged shot, and B. If your opponent rams a player that doesn’t have the ball. Here are examples of some items; A. Mushroom- you become a litter bigger and move faster for a short time, B. Stars- Become invincible to everything for a short time, C. Bom-ombs- Explosive bombs that fall from the sky and attacks opponents. There are many more items in Strikers. Use them to your advantage.
The captains have two special things to use: Megastrikes and Super Abilities. 1. Super Abilities- these are items that only captains can use. It appears as a regular item would, but has faces of the captain of the team. As a bonus, the crowd starts chanting the captains when you have a Super Ability stored. Super Abilities are special items that help you in a pitch. Here are a few examples: A. Super Mario- Mario becomes huge and squashes anyone that gets in his way. B. Thunder Wham- Donkey Kong pounds a huge shockwave to other players, causing a tremendous throwback. Super Abilities are the ace in the hole for many players.
2. Megastrikes- these are the ace in the hole for the players. There are two meters that determine the number and speed of the balls. The left shows how many balls are launched. Get to as close the end part (six balls) without hitting the edge (three balls). You always have 3-6 balls that could possible go in. The right shows the speed of the balls. The gray part is slow, the green is fast, and the orange is super fast. The range of the meters depends on the type of play like Power, Balance, etc. Careful while trying to set up, other players can interfere while getting the meters up. But when it’s done, you might have 6 very fast balls going into the net. Careful again, Kritter (goalie of the teams) can stop the balls. But the faster the balls, the harder it is to stop the balls, and the more balls you get out, the merrier.
Sidekicks have two special abilities as well. 1. Deke/Fake- the special power of the sidekick. They use this mini-superpower to attack/dodge nearby opponents. Captains have these abilities, too. Hammer Bro. has the Hammer Slam that crushes nearby opponents, and Dry Bones can teleport that moves them from one place to another to dodge players and score. The better the color of the ball is, the farther the teleport. 2. Skillshot- Special powers to the sidekicks that are similar to Super Abilities to the Captains, but set up like you would a Megastrike. Hammer Bros. as Hammer Throw, throws 5 hammers to the goalie, then shoots the ball to get the goal, but you have to be close for it to work; and Dry Bones has the Shocker, in which he shoots a huge ball of electric shoots into the goalie, and then you shoot the ball into the goal. Try out all the Skillshots to see which ones you like the best.
This game has many combinations of teams, many fields to play on with lost of obstacles along the way, in-game cheats to access with the Striker Challenge, and trophies to win in the Road to the Striker Cup. Have fun, and work harder to become a Megastriker.

CENTRAL CATHOLIC GAME September 21, 2007

The St. John Eagles will play Central Catholic this week. The Eagles have a 2-1 record with wins over Brusly and U-High. The Eagles only lost came from H. L. Bourgeois, a 5A School. All in all, the Eagles season is off to a wonderful start. The Eagles are marching right back in the Top 10 of the 2A class. Also, the Eagles will honor the seniors of the team this Friday at the game. There are fifteen Seniors on the Eagles Football Team. There will be a lot of proud parents at the game Friday night when the Eagles take on an unbeaten Central Catholic team. The St. John senior cheerleaders and dance team members will be honored also. It will be a night to remember for all in attendance.
Even though it will be Senior Night, let us not forget, that there is still a game to be played. The Central Catholic team will not be an easy opponent, because they have not lost a game so far. I asked Quarterback Galen Johnson how he feels about the game on Friday night against Central Catholic and he stated, ” I feel good because all of our good players are back on offense this week.” He also said, “Since we are back on offense, it is our time to shine, have a good time and score some points.”
The Eagles are trying for a 3 -1 record early into the season. The Eagles still have a long way to go though . The teams left on the schedule are no push over. I think the Eagles play the hardest schedule in the state this year, but, I think they have the talent to win a lot of games and represent St. John of Plaquemine really well.
So good luck to you Eagles and I hope you come back with a victory against Central Catholic. Go Eagles!!!
ST. JOHN VS. U-HIGH September 21, 2007

Last Thursday evening, the St. John Eagle football team came away with the win in a very tight match up. After raining all day in Plaquemine, playing the game was questionable. Though the game would be hard to play under the rainy weather conditions, the decision was to play the game at the scheduled time. The relentless rain, as well as a relentless U-High football club would give the fans a great game to checkout. One big play from a key playmaker on offense and a violent Eagle defense proved to be enough to hold off the U-High Cubs.
St. John senior RB/DB/LB Rodarrick Jones who hasn’t seen a whole lot of offensive playing time during the beginning of this season, made the difference in the game against the Cubs. Jones got the call on offense, made a move, and jetted down the sidelines for a 64 yard touchdown run. Jones’ score would be the one and only score of the game.
The Eagle defense stepped up to the Cub’s challenge and played an excellent football game for four quarters. The Cubs were able to move the ball occasionally on the Eagle defense, but wet grounds and turnovers seemed to be too much for the opposing Cubs. U-High’s first scoring threat came in the first half, but was ended when senior Trent Willis intercepted a pass in the end zone to give the Eagles the ball. Another big play on defense came from sophomore Ryan Suarez in the second half when he intercepted a pass and killed another drive for the Cubs. The Cubs threatened to win the game one last time with an attempted pass into the end zone with the clock winding down under three minutes left in the game. The pass was tipped and fell incomplete in the end zone to give St. John the ball back and their second victory of the year by a score of 6-0.
