Welcome Back! August 28, 2007

We can all agree that summer was over before we knew it. After dreading August
15 since the day school let out last year, we are back and it is a new year. Now,
instead of dreading, we are all looking forward to a year that will stay with
us forever. Along with new freshman, there are new rules, new staff, and new
coaches that will contribute to our new beginning. With freshmen having lot of
nerves, and seniors anxious for graduation, we are all back together as a
family.
After our successful football season last year, we are back with a brand new
coaching staff and pumped-up line of senior leaders. Hoffman is the leader of
the pack with high expectations and a drive for success.
With these new changes come even more. New uniforms is the top that makes everyone cringe. Not only are the skirts longer, but the socks are higher. Not to mention the
uncomfortable oxfords that feel like bricks walking up the stairs. Complaints
are flying everywhere, but it could be worse. It may be hard to adjust; but being St. John Students, we strive for what is best.
Starting off with the new staff, new teams, and new uniforms can take some
adjusting to, but starting off in a whole new environment is even more
challenging. This year’s freshmen will be facing obstacles as they overcome the
year. We asked Freshmen Francesca Louivere how she was going to get used to
the environment and she replied, “I feel scared and out of place, but I am
excited for the events that await.” Most of us know how it feels to be walking
through the halls as freshmen on your first few days of school. High school is
a whole new world compared to middle school and sometimes it could frighten
people. We asked Caci Randazzo if she had any advice for the new freshmen and
she replied, “Walk fast in the halls.” Our advice to you is to be yourself don’t
waste any time because it goes by fast, and have the time of your life.
The sophomores and juniors are apprehensive about the changes taking place. We
spoke to Kayla Bourgeois about the new year and she replied, “This year seems a
lot more challenging; the teachers are harder, the rules stricter, and the
environment is a lot more uptight, but I feel like it better prepares us for
the future.” Some students feel like these changes are for the better. We asked
Kylee Brown about her feelings toward the new year and she said, “I feel like
a role model, and that younger students look up to me. I feel the need to step
up and be a leader.” Both sophomores and juniors have plenty to look forward to
this year. Juniors will be attending their first prom that they can call their
own, and it will be a night to remember forever. Sophomores are leaving behind
their duties for the new “Freshies” to pick up, while the juniors have entered
the world of upperclassmen.
May 16th is the day the seniors are counting down to when they will be able to unload
their lockers and start a new journey. We asked Lyndsey Daigle what her goal was
for this year and she said, “I want to have fun and make sure every event that
goes on at school will be memorable.” Ryan Parr replied, “I just want to my
senior year to be one of the best years of my life.” The time spent together
will be unforgettable. People will come and go, but the ones you grew up with
will last forever. This was their last first week of high school. It’s exciting
for some, but upsetting to others. Corrine Reeves says, “It’s scary because it’s
our last year in high school, and next year we will have to go into the real
world.” For the seniors the end is near, but it is a new beginning for all of
us.
