Video games are electronic devices that are usually played and connected in a TV. Video games make the world a better place. There are many systems that make up the video games, and a few huge companies that make up the systems. The three biggest video game companies in the world are Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft.

Today, the five best and latest products for each of the companies, including handhelds, are: Nintendo- Wii and Nintendo DS, Sony-Playstation 3 and PSP, and Microsoft-X-Box 360. My favorite company is Nintendo. Video games come in two different varieties, big systems and the handhelds. Systems such as the Wii and PS3 are examples of big systems, and the ones such as the NDS and PSP are examples of handhelds.

There are mascots for some of the companies. For example, Nintendo’s is Mario, and the mascot of Sega, an assisting company, is Sonic the Hedgehog. Mascots are characters in many of the video games the companies make.

The first video games were made in the late 70s. Arcade games were made before making the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), the first system of Nintendo. The first handheld system was the Game Boy. The first-ever Mario video game made was “Donkey Kong,” because he was known as Jumpman in this game. The first official Mario game was “Mario Bros.,” where Mario and Luigi debut. Unfortunately, that was not the first Mario game in the NES, which was “Super Mario Bros.” Yes, Mario has been starring for almost 30 years in video game-time, which is why he is mascot.

Of course, not everyone plays video games. In fact, there are many people who haven’t even heard of video games. I think that people here are more interested in Sony and Microsoft than Nintendo. I asked senior Sean Ghashghaee what he thinks about video games. He replied, “They are fun. They provide hours of entertainment.” Yep, video games are one of the best hobbies out there. Video games are optional, but awesome.
