The Eagle Update August 28, 2007

It’s a new year at St. John, and quite a few new rules have come along with it. There are two rules that will probably stand out to students this year. These are the uniform change and students having to use a hall pass each time they leave the classrooom.
The new uniform is a change for both guys and girls, but a bigger change for girls. It’s a subject that will be spoken of for a long time. Complaints are flying and most students were not very happy about it. After talking to a few of my friends about the uniform change, the main point that was brought up was that they do not understand why the skirts have to be so long.
The hall pass rule is going to be hard to get used to, because we all know how easy and common it was to wander the halls last year and years before. Teachers were more relaxed about letting their students leave the classroom, and it is clear that this is a new and different year with new rules to follow. Rules and regulations are changed often at school and they will definitely take some getting used to this year
We have all seen in previous years that rules tend to fade out as the year passes. For example, last year we could only wear navy, black, white, or grey tennis shoes. By the end of the year, we could get away with wearing pretty much any color shoes that we wanted to wear. However, this year is a completely new year and the rules are strictly enforced. After asking our disciplinarian, Coach Whittington, if he thought the rules would stay into affect throughout the whole year, he said that he feels everything will stay the same and they will enforce rules until the last day of school. This is not very good news to the students, but we will see what happens with the new year school year as time passes.
