Ready to Hunt? August 28, 2007

There’s nothing like waking up early on a cold morning, grabbing a warm biscuit and a hot cup of coffee, then heading out into the woods and trying to creep up to the stand. Many of you hunters out there know what I am talking about. The long wait is almost over: hunting season is just around the corner.
Dove season starts in less than two weeks. Dove is the most fun to me, but dangerous. In an interview with the game warden, Ronnie Hebert, he said, “The biggest problem with the decrease of animals is the outlaws.” An outlaw is someone who hunts illegally.
I talked to some of the members in the White Castle hunting club. They were all pumped up and couldn’t wait any longer for hunting season. “I’m on a mission this year, son,” says Cody Daigle in my interview with him. Cody has been a member of the White Castle hunting club for five years. He loves hunting, and so does his friend Nathan Merritt. Nathan has been a member of the White Castle hunting club for 7 years. When I was interviewing them, they were like a couple of woodpeckers on a tree: they couldn’t stop talking about it.
Hunting Safety is a big deal. There have been numbers of people killed in hunting accidents. I lost someone in my own family in a hunting accident. If you haven’t taken the Hunting Safety course, I would recommend taking it. Being responsible is also a big part of hunting. Taking the time to go and get all of your licenses and certification cards is necessary. Responsible hunters are safe hunters, and it is always better to be safe than sorry.
